These letters were written from Private Clifton E. Burding to his hometown girlfriend (and future wife) Lillian Snailhan of New Bedford, Massachusetts between 1917 and 1919. Burding was with Company G, 61st Infantry and began training at Fort Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts and Camp Green in Charlotte, North Carolina before being sent to France and, later, Camp Merritt in Creskill, New Jersey. Burding wrote frequently to Lillian and provided insight into the daily routine of military camp life, including frequent drilling and marching, practice with weapons and gas masks, trench digging, medical exams and inoculations, quarantines due to measles, and his assigned details as a hospital orderly, kitchen worker, and provost guard.

This collection contains the administrative files, fieldwork recordings, and photographs collected by the Delmarva Folklife Project between 1997 and 2003. The project documented Delmarva folk arts and cultural traditions through oral history interviews, photographs, video recordings, and collected materials used for research. Additionally, it promoted regional folk arts through mentoring programs, collection distribution to cultural institutions, and two 2004 publications: From Bridge to Boardwalk: An Audio Journey Across Maryland's Eastern Shore and Folk Arts and Cultural Traditions of the Delmarva Peninsula: An Interpretive Resource Guide. Also included are four boxes containing the reproduced slides and tapes that were distributed to various cultural institutions in the region.

Based on locations often mentioned, she is likely from New Jersey and could be related to a family with the surname Moore.

The two Diaries of Helen Binde offer insight into the life and mind of the young nurse who lived in New Jersey in 1928. At the beginning of 1928, Binde started her career as a nurse; throughout the diaries she wrote openly and often about her patients and fellow employees. She pasted numerous newspaper clippings regarding aviators and, in particular, Charles Lindbergh, in addition to newspaper clippings about politics like the 1928 presidential election. On page 18 of the second diary there is a photograph of Binde which she wrote that she sent to a motion picture company to apply as an actress. Binde also wrote which verse of the Bible that she read that day.

This diary was written by Elizabeth Cole between 1875 and 1876 in Parsippany, New Jersey. Cole was a Quaker who wrote about her husband, as well as their six days at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Cole previously had three children, though they all died in their youth. Also included in the back of the diary are genealogical notes on the Cole and Clark families.

Quindlen lived in Centreville, Pennsylvania with his single mother after having moved from Maine to New Jersey and then to Pennsylvania. He was listed as a "distinguished student" in the local newspaper and was very resourceful, having built a shanty where he often escaped.

The Diary of Sara Bindley documents the life and travels of Sara Slocum Bindley with her children and grandchildren from 1898 to 1919. The first few pages, from 1898 to 1899 record the childhood of Sara's children while they lived in New York. The rest of the diary dates from 1916 to 1919 and describes the travels of Sara with her granddaughter Sarah Virginia Sandell as they travel to Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and upstate New York during World War I. Some of their adventures include hospitalizations due to accidents and Sarah Virginia's participation in a Red Cross Play. Pasted into the diary are photographs, postcards, and other ephemera. Also included with the diary is a 1938 document acknowledging Sarah Virginia's receipt of $300 from the will of John Bindley.
English and American Photographers' Correspondence

This collection contains the correspondence of two photographers-- an Englishman and an American--between 1939 and 1940. Also included are several photographs and negatives of England and Germany, one of which features Nazi flags behind a statue of King Wilhelm. The photographers wrote letters to and from about their love of photography, but also commented on the escalation of the Second World War. The men, who were both 27 years old, were William Rosenblohm of Mt. View, New Jersey and George Church of Barking, Essex.

This collection contains materials pertaining to Stewart Pomeroy of New Jersey, who served in WWII. Items include discharge papers, photographs, correspondence written to his family from 1942 to 1944, and a journal of the USS Sea Cloud from June 11 to June 28, 1942 and March 21 to 29, 1943, which contains an account of the rescue of eight survivors of the Portuguese schooner Maria da Gloria, which was torpedoed by the U-94. Also included are newspapers from the New Jersey-New York area describing the disaster of the Normandie. In addition, there are several Icelandic ephemera, a 1944 issue of the Icelandic newspaper Visir, currency and scenic photographs.
